Giving What’s Given
Giving What’s Given
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Luke 6:38
The Blood Mobile was calling me as I glanced its way before entering church, Sunday morning. Giving blood was an easy thing to do. I just lay back and let the technicians draw a pint from my body, knowing how it will replenish itself, over time, and without my effort. As I reflected on this, I realized what was given was a gift given to me. I did not make this blood, which flows continuously throughout my body. Yet, it was still mine to give, with the capacity to save someone’s life. I will never know if my blood saved a life. The result was not up for me to know or determine. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7)
This life-giving sustenance reminds me of breast milk. At the time I was breastfeeding my newborn son, the Lord put on my heart to share this precious milk with sick and premature infants. It was easy to give what was given to me, and I had an abundance, as the milk kept replenishing itself while breastfeeding. Many babies thrived and survived on God’s Milk, including a one-pound preemie. (Luke 6:38)
When Jesus shed His Blood, it was not easy. He suffered terribly, but willingly. He poured out His life completely. When the sword pierced His heart, the flow of blood and water became a fountain of life to all who are hungry and thirsty. His shed blood was enough to cleanse the whole world of sin and spiritually nurture born-again believers, eternally.
(Isaiah 55:1, John 6:53)
We have the power to give what’s already been given; to share the knowledge of the Truth of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. He sowed His life to reap eternal life, not just for one, but for everyone who believes. We can never outgive the Giver; for the gospel seed sown in love, just keeps giving. (John 12:24, Romans 1:16)
